Bring Your Whole Self to UUS
In Unitarian Universalism, you can bring your whole self: your full identity, your questioning mind, your expansive heart. When you're with UUS, you don't have to check our personal background of beliefs at the door. We join together on a journey that honors where we've been before.

Together, we create a force more powerful than one person or one belief system.

Our beliefs are diverse and inclusive. We have no shared creed. Learn about our 7 Principles that support the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

Our 7 Principles

Our 7 Principles are not dogma or doctrine, but rather a guide for those who choose to join UUS and participate in Unitarian Universalist community.

1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
2nd Principle: Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
5th Principle: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
6th Principle: The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

The UU Sanctuary
The UUS is a historic compound with ties to original Chumash settlers and Old Mission Santa Barbara. The property has been a site of spiritual worship and healing for over 100 years. Located next to the historic Santa Barbara Mission on 5 magical acres, the Sanctuary includes a main residence, guest house, meditation house, non-theistic worship chapel, and outdoor chapel all in service to the community. Events include community drum circle, sound bath, guided meditations, weddings, prayer services and activist retreats.

The UUS has served as a home to the Anglican Sisters of the Holy Nativity, the Mount Calvary Episcopal Benedictine Monks, philanthropist and good people seeking and building culture and in Santa Barbara since the 1880's.
